Intuit Stock Slide Puts Software Stocks on Guidance Watch After Fiscal 2027 Outlook

Intuit Stock Slide Puts Software Stocks on Guidance Watch After Fiscal 2027 Outlook

AUGUST 26, 2026

Intuit stock came under heavy pressure in Wednesday trading focus after the financial software company delivered a solid fiscal fourth-quarter beat but issued a fiscal 2027 outlook that investors judged too cautious for a premium software name.

The shares fell sharply in premarket activity, extending the after-hours decline that followed the earnings release. The move made Intuit one of the more notable single-stock drags in the software group, where traders have been quick to punish companies that show slowing forward growth even when the latest quarter clears expectations.

Guidance Overshadows a Better-Than-Expected Quarter

For the fiscal fourth quarter, Intuit reported revenue of about $4.35 billion and adjusted earnings of $4.03 per share, both ahead of market expectations. Full-year fiscal 2026 revenue reached roughly $21.4 billion, reflecting double-digit growth across the company’s tax, small-business and personal-finance ecosystem.

The problem for the stock was not the quarter just reported, but the year ahead. Intuit’s fiscal 2027 revenue guidance pointed to roughly 9% to 10% growth, with a range of about $23.28 billion to $23.51 billion. That fell below the consensus estimate near $23.7 billion and signaled a step down from the stronger growth rate delivered in fiscal 2026.

Software Investors Reprice Growth Expectations

The selloff shows how little room for disappointment remains in large-cap software stocks after a strong equity-market run. Investors have been willing to pay high multiples for companies with recurring revenue, artificial intelligence features and resilient customer bases, but that support weakens quickly when management guidance implies a slower expansion path.

For Intuit, the next debate is whether the weaker outlook reflects a temporary investment cycle, a more conservative planning stance, or a genuine moderation in demand across tax preparation, small-business accounting and consumer finance products. Bulls are likely to focus on the company’s scale, cash generation and ability to add AI-driven services, while bears may argue that slower growth makes the stock’s valuation harder to defend.

The reaction also adds a cautionary signal for the broader software tape. With investors already watching inflation data, interest-rate expectations and megacap technology earnings, Intuit’s drop suggests that guidance quality remains the key test for growth stocks heading into the final stretch of the earnings season.
