Personal Trainer’s Tips for First-time Gym-goers

Going to the gym may sound scary and overwhelming when you are a first-time goer. So, here are a few tips to help you feel more confident about your first time at the gym:

Have a plan

No matter what you start to do in your life, you need to start with a plan and well-defined goals. And, reshaping your body is no exception to that rule. As a first-time gym-goer, you will see that you might feel tempted to give up going to the gym right after your first time. So, having a plan and goals will help you stay motivated.

Also, before going to the gym, you need to know exactly what you want to achieve. Do you want to lose weight or you want to reshape a certain area of your body? Depending on what you want to achieve, you need to set up a workout routine that will help you reach your goals.

Bring a support buddy

As mentioned before, as a first-time gym-goer, your motivation may be a little bit questionable. You may feel motivated for the first time you go to the gym, but after you start experiencing sore muscles, you may feel tempted to quit. So, it is always smarter to bring a support buddy that will motivate you to continue your workouts even when you start feeling tired. Choose a friend or a family member that you feel comfortable with, and ask them to go to the gym with you.

Don’t stay on the cardio machine for too long

If the gym you go to is overcrowded with other people who work out, there is an etiquette rule you may want to know. No matter what their gym goals are, everybody wants to spend some time on the cardio machine. So, don’t spend more than 25 minutes on the cardio machine because other gym-goers should have their turn too.

Clean the machines after using them

Like it or not, going to the gym means going there to sweat. And, for sure you wouldn’t like to use a machine after someone else left their sweat on it. So, make sure that after working out on a machine, you clean it properly before moving to another one.

No one will judge you

Everybody has had their first-time at the gym when they had no idea what they were supposed to do, how to use the machines, and how to behave according to the gym etiquette rules. And, for sure, they were stressed about others judging them.

When you are a first-time gym-goer, you will experience the same anxiety especially worrying that you will make a fool of yourself and everybody else in the gym will be watching and judging you. However, everybody is there to work on their body, there are very few who will actually even notice you. So, stop worrying that if you go to the gym there will be others laughing at you for being a novice. Once you become a pro, you will see that you don’t even pay attention to the people surrounding you at the gym.

Going to the gym for the first time can be exciting, yet intimidating. Use these 5 tips to help you stay motivated and to respect the gym etiquette rules.
