Euro Stays Below $1.15 as Federal Reserve Repricing Keeps Forex Market Dollar-Bid

SEPTEMBER 21, 2026

The euro remained on the defensive against the U.S. dollar on Monday, September 21, as the forex market continued to digest last week’s Federal Reserve rate increase and the prospect of further tightening. EUR/USD traded below the psychologically important $1.15 area, keeping attention on whether the pair can defend nearby support after a sharp weekly decline.

The move reflects a broader dollar-positive tone across major currency pairs. The dollar index held near the 100 level after a strong prior week, supported by higher U.S. yield expectations and a market view that the Federal Reserve may not be finished raising rates. For euro traders, that has narrowed the path for a sustained rebound unless incoming U.S. inflation data cools or eurozone growth signals improve.

Federal Reserve Outlook Keeps Dollar Demand Firm

The Federal Reserve’s latest quarter-point rate increase, combined with guidance that left the door open to additional hikes, has pushed traders to rebuild long-dollar positions. The policy divergence is especially important for EUR/USD because U.S. rates remain meaningfully above eurozone rates, preserving the carry advantage of holding dollars over euros.

Comments from U.S. policymakers have also reinforced the message that inflation remains the central concern. That tone has made it harder for risk-sensitive currencies to rally and has kept the euro exposed to selling on intraday rebounds. In the near term, traders are likely to watch U.S. activity data, inflation expectations and Treasury yield moves for confirmation that the dollar’s post-Fed strength can extend.

Euro Faces ECB Communication and Germany Risk

The euro’s weakness is not only a dollar story. Political uncertainty in Germany has added another layer of pressure at a time when eurozone growth momentum remains uneven. Lower oil prices would normally offer some relief to the single currency by reducing import-cost pressure, but that support has so far been outweighed by the stronger dollar and cautious sentiment toward Europe.

European Central Bank communication is now a key focus for the forex market. Any signal that officials remain willing to respond to sticky inflation could limit euro losses, while a more growth-sensitive message would risk deepening the policy gap with the Federal Reserve. Traders are also assessing whether eurozone rate expectations can rise enough to challenge the dollar’s yield advantage.

EUR/USD Technical Levels Put $1.1450 in Focus

Technically, EUR/USD remains vulnerable while price action stays capped below $1.15. A failure to recover that level would keep short-term momentum tilted toward sellers and place the mid-$1.14 area in focus. A decisive break lower could invite tests of deeper support, especially if U.S. yields continue to rise.

For bulls, the first task is to reclaim $1.15 and hold above it through the New York session. A stronger recovery would require a shift in the macro narrative, such as softer U.S. data, less hawkish Federal Reserve commentary or clearer evidence that eurozone inflation risks are keeping the European Central Bank on alert. Until then, the forex market is likely to treat euro rallies as corrective rather than trend-changing.
