Ripple Selloff Leads Cryptocurrency Market Lower as Federal Reserve Risk Hits Altcoins
SEPTEMBER 10, 2026
Dogecoin and XRP-linked Ripple exposure came under fresh pressure on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as the cryptocurrency market shifted back into defensive mode after an earlier rally lost momentum. The move was most visible in higher-beta altcoins, where leveraged positioning and weakening risk appetite amplified the decline.
Dogecoin traded near $0.0836, down about 6.5% on the session, after moving between roughly $0.0894 and $0.0833 intraday. XRP fell to around $1.36, losing more than 4%, while Bitcoin slipped below $78,000 and Ethereum moved toward the mid-$2,400 area. The pattern pointed to a broad risk reduction rather than an isolated token-specific shock.
The latest selloff followed a period of strong speculative demand in large-cap crypto assets, leaving meme coins and payment-linked tokens vulnerable to profit-taking. Dogecoin’s sharper decline suggests traders are cutting exposure where liquidity is deep enough to exit quickly but sentiment remains highly momentum-driven.
Ripple-linked XRP also weakened as traders reassessed near-term catalysts after a multi-week advance. The token’s drop below recent trading levels may encourage more cautious positioning before upcoming macro and regulatory events that could affect digital asset flows.
Liquidation risk remained a key driver across the cryptocurrency market. When prices fall quickly, leveraged long positions can be forced to close, adding market sell orders and deepening the decline. That dynamic often hits altcoins harder than Bitcoin because order books can thin rapidly during volatile sessions.
Bitcoin’s smaller percentage drop showed that the largest crypto asset remained comparatively more resilient, but its move below recent levels still mattered for sentiment. Ethereum also declined, reinforcing the view that traders were not rotating cleanly within crypto but reducing overall exposure.
The pullback came as investors weighed higher energy prices, firmer yields and uncertainty around the Federal Reserve’s next policy signal. Crypto assets have become increasingly sensitive to real-rate expectations because tighter financial conditions can reduce appetite for speculative trades.
For Dogecoin and Ripple, the immediate technical question is whether dip buyers return near intraday lows or whether the latest decline forces another round of deleveraging. A stabilization in Bitcoin would help, but without stronger market breadth, altcoins may remain exposed to abrupt swings.
The session leaves the cryptocurrency market in a cautious position: long-term adoption narratives remain intact, but short-term trading is being dominated by leverage, macro headlines and the speed at which capital moves out of riskier tokens.
