Bitcoin Crypto Market Holds $81,000 as ETF Outflows and Long Liquidations Test Bulls
OCTOBER 29, 2026
Bitcoin steadied back above $81,000 on Thursday after briefly sliding below the $80,000 threshold, leaving the crypto market caught between bargain hunting and renewed caution over United States monetary policy. The move followed the Federal Reserve’s decision to keep its benchmark rate range at 3.75% to 4%, a pause that did little to remove concern that borrowing costs may stay restrictive if inflation remains firm.
The recovery was not enough to erase the warning sent by derivatives markets. Leveraged bullish positions were squeezed during the overnight decline, with liquidation estimates clustered in the several-hundred-million-dollar range across crypto futures. That forced selling showed how quickly crowded long exposure can unwind when macro headlines and technology-sector risk aversion hit at the same time.
For digital assets, the key issue was not simply that the Federal Reserve held rates steady. Traders focused on the tone of the decision, including the central bank’s emphasis that inflation remains elevated and that more data will guide the next policy step. That language kept Treasury-yield and dollar risk in view, limiting enthusiasm for high-volatility assets such as Bitcoin.
Bitcoin’s dip below $80,000 also came as broader risk sentiment weakened, particularly in areas linked to high-growth technology and artificial intelligence spending. Crypto has increasingly traded as a liquidity-sensitive asset, and Thursday’s price action reinforced that link. When equity traders reduce exposure to growth themes, Bitcoin often faces parallel pressure from institutional desks, futures accounts and exchange-traded products.
The liquidation wave may help remove some excess leverage from the market, but it does not automatically create a durable bottom. A cleaner futures positioning backdrop can support short-term rebounds, yet spot demand, ETF flows and macro expectations will need to improve for Bitcoin to break decisively away from the $80,000 area.
Market depth remains a central focus. If Bitcoin continues to hold above $80,000, traders may view the overnight break as a failed downside test. A sustained move below that level, however, would risk turning the zone into resistance and could invite fresh selling from momentum accounts. The next technical battleground is likely to form between the intraday low near $79,600 and the recovery zone around $81,500.
Near-term direction now depends on whether upcoming United States economic data strengthens or weakens the case for another rate increase. Hot inflation or resilient growth figures would likely keep real-yield pressure on Bitcoin, while softer data could revive the argument that the Fed is closer to the end of its tightening cycle.
For now, the crypto market has shifted from a momentum chase to a risk-management phase. Bitcoin’s rebound above $81,000 shows that dip buyers are still active, but the liquidation shock underlines that confidence remains fragile. Until macro signals turn more supportive, rallies may be tested quickly by futures positioning, dollar strength and changing expectations for Federal Reserve policy.
